Everyone likes to be happy. People spend money going to workshops and seminars to unlock the key to happiness. While there is nothing wrong with wanting more out of life, I believe there could be an easier way. Laughing, which often gets overlooked, is an excellent way to improve your overall health.

Your physical and mental health stands to improve by simply laughing. Laughing can boost your immunity by increasing immune cells and by decreasing stress, thus creating a two-fold benefit. Stress weakens your body’s defenses and stronger immune cells go to work on your behalf. Laughing is also known for relaxing muscles. Many people can attest to the fact that laughing simply increases their energy. And you probably already know that laughing decreases negative emotions because you cannot feel sad and/or angry when you are laughing. However, many times laughing allows you to stay more focused.

There are also social benefits. Laughing helps strengthen relationships. Think about it, you can laugh at someone or something funny and people often think that you are laughing with them. Laughing can often defuse conflict and therefore, it promotes bonding with others. In addition, the personal benefits of laughing may be the most important, when you are able to laugh at yourself, find humor in difficulties, and keep life in the proper perspective.

Knowing the many benefits of laughter, this April Fool’s Day might be a good time to express yourself with friends and family.

Here are some common jokes to ponder:
    1. Borrow someone’s cell phone and change the language setting to a foreign language.
    2. Switch around random keys on someone’s keyboard who isn’t a good typist.

    4. Add several odd appointments with alarms set to go off during the day to a co-workers Outlook calendar.
    5. Put a “Please Use Other Door” sign on the entrance to your office building if it only has one entrance.
    6. Hard boil all the eggs in the carton and place them back in the refrigerator.
    7. Place a small piece of Post-it note over the ball under someone’s computer mouse so that it won’t work.
